More about the company, site and cookies

Mark Emery Ltd is incorporated in England and Wales number 7065343.

Web servers have no memory of the page you looked at last, even if milliseconds ago. Cookies (small text files sent by the server and stored by the web browser on your computer’s hard drive) are therefore used to fake a form of memory in order to help a number of functions operate on this site:

  • Allow users to register and leave comments against blog posts
  • Allow the site to respond to you as an individual by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.
  • Enable an ordering system such as the print shop keep track of you as you progress an order from gallery to checkout.
  • Enable users to log into the site with their Facebook ID if they so wish rather than register a local account.

Opted-in cookies can help analyse web traffic when you visit particular sites. Recent concerns about how cookies can be used to track users activity around the Internet has caused governments to put legislation in place to protect the consumer, restricting things like targeted advertising. For England, Ireland and Scotland this is known as the “UK Cookie Law”. Increasingly users are required to Opt-In to the use of cookies and governments are beginning to impose considerable fines to web sites operators that don’t allow such opting in or out.

When you Opt-In via CookieQ on this site, a cookie named CookieQ is used to identify your browser so that they can store a record of your opt-in action. This is “strictly necessary to the operation” of functionality on their site and is only used for this purpose. Their code blocks or permits cookies to be inserted by this site in accordance with your preferences.
